University work placement student, Mia, has joined our team

There’s not much that fulfils us more than supporting young talent into the accounting and finance profession

That’s why we are delighted to have welcomed Mia into our team, to undertake a one year placement with us as part of her degree.

Mia is starting out in our Business Services team, supporting clients with bookkeeping, management accounts, payroll, VAT returns and more. She will be gaining experience across our full service portfolio and will bring us regular updates throughout her placement year.

Mia says: “I recently completed the second year of the Business Economics and Finance (BSc) course at Loughborough University. I started at Loughborough in September 2019, and I am due to finish in June 2023 after completing my placement year with Parsons and my final year.

How did you secure your work placement with us?

“I came to hear about Parsons through a family friend who is a client; he passed on my CV and a speculative letter I wrote to Ian Parsons, explaining who I was and what I was looking for in my placement year. I then had a follow up interview and I was offered the placement.

“Thus far, I have been completing work files and account prep for different client companies, learning my way around the accounting software and completing analysis. I’m becoming comfortable working on my own and getting familiar with the new concepts and accounts I am working with. The team here regularly attend training courses for continuous professional development, so I’ve enrolled on an Introduction to Bookkeeping course which will provide me with a good foundation of understanding and some additional, practical skills.

How are you finding the Parsons team and the work you’re doing?

“Joining Parsons has been really easy and comfortable, I’ve been made to feel very welcome by everyone. I really like the office environment, it’s extremely friendly and relaxed, there’s always someone on hand to help me and a lively, cheery atmosphere. I know I’m going to really enjoy my time here. I’m looking forward to working alongside experienced accountants on live client accounts and projects which I will put towards my final year at uni. and which will certainly enrich my future career.

What’s next for you, following your placement?

“Once I complete my degree I hope to secure a job within the finance sector using my data analysis and mathematical skills. My professional skills are improving already, just from being in a working environment with the Parsons team. Looking to the future, I hope to achieve my potential whilst working in a job that both challenges and rewards me. I want to be regarded as someone trustworthy and knowledgeable, who people are happy to come to for help and advice.

Who is your idol, and what interests do you have outside of work?

“My idol is Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty as having been a competitive swimmer when I was younger, I understand the dedication and time it takes to be successful – even at the level I was at, never mind being a world and Olympic champion! Adam trains at Loughborough, so I have seen him around a few times. I’m inspired by the fact that his hard work has paid off and he has been so consistent for such a long time. In my spare time I love going out for food and drinks with my friends, seeing family and keeping active by going to the gym. I also love just relaxing at home and watching TV.”

We’ll check-in with Mia in a few months for an update on her placement journey with our team. Keep an eye on our social media feeds for her updates.
